On July 28, 2008 the General Assembly at the Palestinian Businesswomen's Association; Asala held an annual meeting at Asala's office in Ramallah. The General Assembly and representatives of the Palestinian Ministry of Interior reviewed and approved the Annual Financial and Administrative reports for 2007 and conducted elections for the Board of Directors as the legal period of service for the former Board had expired.
Ms. Reem Abboushi, Executive Director of Asala, then presented the Association's achievements in 2007 in accordance to the strategic plan set in 2006. Her presentation reviewed the steps taken to face repeated crises, and also explained the distribution of loans and income generation projects per sector, per geographic location, and per product.
The presentation focused on the importance of meeting demands and designing products that will facilitate women's empowerment through participation in income generating projects. This includes designing new products and reevaluating current products to ensure that the criteria necessary to access, obtain, use and repay a loan is simple and encouraging. Finally, Ms. Abboushi emphasized the importance of non financial services including counseling, training, mentoring and extensive follow up; all necessary to further ensure the success of the micro entrepreneurs' projects.
The elections held for the Board of Directors resulted in the following new members:
Ms. Zahira Kamal (Chairwoman), Ms. Raja' Rantisi, Ms. Bisan Abu Rouqti, Mr. Amer Safarini, Ms. Randa Hilal, Dr. Fawaz Abu Sitta, Ms. Hiba Qudweh, Ms. Hanan Taha, Mr. Sami Abdel Shafi.
